If your numeric keypad won’t type numbers even when NumLock is on, it’s likely because Windows 11 defaults have turned on “Mouse Keys.” This guide shows you how to switch it off.

Details

Windows 11 may be using your keypad for cursor control instead of number entry, due to the Mouse Keys setting.

Caused By

By default, Windows 11 enables Mouse Keys—using the numeric keypad to move the pointer.

Resolution / Steps

  1. Click the Start button, type Control Panel, and press Enter.
  2. In Control Panel, search for and open the Ease of Access Center.
  3. Click Change how your keyboard works.
  4. Uncheck Turn on Mouse Keys, then click Apply and OK.
  5. Test your numeric keypad—numbers should now work when NumLock is on.
  6. Go to helpdesk.elisha.ph and submit a ticket for further assistance.
